Farfield
Farfield is a free 3D rail shooter that runs in a web browser. There is nothing
to install and no account to make: open the page and fly.
What it is
You fly a fighter low over an endless landscape that is generated as you go —
mountain ranges, farmland, deserts, coastline and open sea, with towns, villages
and futuristic cities in between. Enemy drones close from ahead, ground turrets
track you, and the terrain itself will kill you if you fly into it. Your score is
the distance you cover plus what you destroy on the way.
A new world every day
The landscape comes from a seed derived from the date, so everyone who plays on a
given day flies exactly the same world and the leaderboard compares like with
like. It changes at midnight UTC. There is also a free-flight mode with no rails
and no combat, for looking at the scenery.
Controls
- Mouse or WASD to steer and aim
- Space or click to fire, E or M for a homing missile
- Shift to boost, Ctrl to brake
- P to pause, V to mute, F for free flight, H for the full control list
How it is built
Farfield is written in plain JavaScript modules with Three.js and no build step.
The terrain, the buildings, the ships and every sound are generated in code
rather than loaded from files.
